The SortingThe Sorting takes place every year at Hogwarts on September 1. The first years at Hogwarts are led to the Great Hall, after the journey across the lake to the castle. They line up parallel to the staff table. One by one, they are called up to try on the Sorting Hat, an ancient hat worn by Godric Gryffindor himself. The hat was selected to carry out the Founders wishes on who deserves to be in thier houses. Thus, when the hat is placed on one's head, the hat decides if you have the quality of a Slytherin (ambitious, cunning); Gryffindor (bravery, chivalry); Hufflepuff (dependability, loyalty); or Ravenclaw (wit, learning).
